Randy’s December, 2022 Update:
In my October, 2022 update I highlighted two Board members – Bruce Norquist and David Cooper. Here are some words from them about why they have chosen to serve on the Board of Directors.
Bruce Norquist
“I have had the privilege of serving on the Board of Directors of Legacy Shepherding Ministries, Inc. for sixteen years.
“When Randy asked me to serve on the Board in 2006, I had already seen how impactful his leadership was in a small group he led, of which I was a part, and I had also experienced firsthand how his wise mentorship of me deepened the roots of my faith in Jesus.
“The men’s small group I was a part of met faithfully for five straight years from 2000-2005. This group of seven men provided me a vibrant faith-filled community, which supported me through many of life’s transitions. This group was the most formative small group I have ever been a part of.
“Randy’s mentorship of me was very intentional. It focused on emotional awareness, authenticity with God and others, and hearing God speak through my own story, which rejuvenated my faith. It brought healing to enduring wounds I had carried through my life, and helped me deepen my relationships with those around me. His mentorship of me was transformational.
“So I was fully on board and eager to serve on the Board of Legacy Shepherding Ministries, Inc. when he asked.
”It has been so encouraging to watch this ministry’s impact expand person by person. In many ways, the work of this ministry is countercultural within the evangelical American church which tends to focus on numbers, views salvation as a fire insurance policy that solely gets people into heaven, and values faithfulness to rules, dogma, and political stances. The focus of this ministry goes so much deeper.
“In Legacy Shepherding Ministries, young leaders are challenged to live fully into Jesus’ calling so that they might have life and have it abundantly through God’s transformative work in them. But this call toward transformation is not meant to be an end in itself. Rather those who benefit from this ministry are inspired to pass on their learnings and this transformative work to others. In this way, Legacy Shepherding Ministries has truly become a ministry of multiplication.
“I am confident this ministerial work will ripple both directly and indirectly into the lives of many people and ultimately into eternity. I am filled with joy and satisfaction knowing that God has indeed been doing a powerful work through this ministry.” – Bruce Norquist
David Cooper
“When Randy asked me recently if I’d write something about why I have continued to serve on the Legacy board for the past 5 years, I wanted to come up with some powerful words. But instead of wrestling for something, I slowed myself down and decided I needed to just honor the image that first appeared in my mind.
“It was of a man in his late twenties. He worked hard to be likeable, competent, genuine and kind. And he indeed was those things. But if you told him he was, he didn’t believe it. He couldn’t. Kind words were for everyone else.
“When he’d walk through the hallways of his work, the aisles of a grocery store, or even alone on a sidewalk, he walked with his head down. Hands in his pockets. If you peered inside his mind, his thoughts were often consumed with the prodding to be something, anything, more than what he was.
“When you looked into his eyes, he fought hard to hide the pain that resided behind them. And he hid it well. At the same time, the energy from holding back the dam was crushing him. And he didn’t even know it.
“As I’m sure you’ve guessed by now, that man was me. Every example shared was true of my life and what I believed about myself. Until someone came alongside me, and with great mercy, much like Jesus, helped me see that there was another way to Live.
“I first chose to financially support this ministry, because I had eaten from the banquet of transformation. A transformation that was shared with no strings attached.

I obviously didn’t know how to smile and take a selfie at the same time! 🙂 I’m still learning and growing too!
“One of the many reasons why I am honored to be on the board is that I know there are many of you – of us – who are intentionally investing in others in the same intentional way that we were invested in.
“So let us keep walking the path, friends. Keep looking to Jesus. And keep tasting the banquet.
“Pursuing transformation with you,” – David Cooper
