Mark’s Breakdown Transformation:
Mark is a very passionate, high-capacity man who loves the Lord. After stepping into full-time ministry for about a year and a half, he came to an exhausted place where he felt like he was completely done. He couldn’t do it anymore. Below is a video of a talk he gave describing his breakdown transformation, and what he learned from it.
Prior to giving this talk, he wrote the testimonial below, entitled “That’s not my job”.
Thankfully, Mark is still doing the good work God called him to do. Hopefully, he will continue for many years to come.
Let Striving Cease:
I’d love for you to watch this video and see Mark’s heart. I’m so glad we are investing in him.
“That’s Not My Job” by Mark Wittig:
“That’s not my job.
“I hate those words. It even bothers me to type them. To me they wreak of shirking responsibility, of a mindset that says ‘I can’t be held accountable for this.’
“Yet something about them is profoundly true. Over the last year, as I have been meeting with Randy, God has been teaching me that I need to not hate these word but instead often times own them.
“Because of my strong emotions and convictions, I have found that I often have a perspective or an opinion about a lot of things. And because of my drive and passion, I can often exert my perspective and make things happen.
“This is great in areas that I am responsible for–taking care of my family, helping people who go to our church, making sure that people at Mission Church are connected and have a group of people to grow with.
“But when I exert myself into areas I don’t have responsibility for–other family member’s lives, my co-workers’ roles, other areas of Mission Church–I cause damage, even when I am trying to genuinely help. I prevent people from showing up and using their gifts and talents. I quell others great ideas. I make people feel insignificant and judged.
“A year ago I didn’t see this. I would have felt like I was being helpful, caring, taking an ownership stake. That because I cared, I couldn’t and shouldn’t release responsibility.
“Meeting with Randy through Legacy Shepherding Ministries, Inc. has provided me the space and the feedback to begin to see these things, and more importantly to begin to release control of the outcomes, to trust God and His love and care for the people around me. It has given me the freedom to really passionately focus on what I am called to and to let go of what I am not.
“Randy has helped me find the courage to say, ‘That’s not my job’ and to be okay with that.
“I am so grateful for this (and I am pretty sure the people around me are too 🙂 ).” – Mark Wittig
Thanks:
I think this video and written testimonial show, in part, how growth is a process, with many learnings around the same topic, along the way. Both seem like steps in an on-going process of discovery God has been leading Mark through. I’ve a suspicion there are more learnings ahead.
Thanks for investing in Mark. He’s a great pastor to those in need.
In His Love,
Randy
