Two Legacy Alumni have recently had their writings published! Wow!
It’s heartwarming and inspiring to watch God continuing to grow and flourish the people we have invested in over the years. I believe that some of what is currently happening in their lives is due in part to the work The Lord started in the past through this ministry. Way to go, God! And way to go, You, for your prayers and support that made it possible.
Uma Girish’s Personal Memoir – Losing Amma, Finding Home:
I first met Uma on her mother’s birthday. Her mother (amma) had died of cancer in India relatively recently and Uma was still deep in the heartbreak of grieving. Having lost my own mother a couple years prior, I knew – in my own way – some of what she was experiencing. We both sensed something in our very first meeting – it felt like God (or Amma, in Uma’s case) had brought us together for a reason, so we followed His (her) leading and began meeting regularly, an uncommon combination – a grieving Hindu woman from India and a male Christian mentor of twenty-somethings from Chicago suburbia.
Uma’s memoir, which recently got published, tells some of her story of coming to the States, losing her mother, and then discovering how God would use her mother’s death in a positive way, leading Uma closer to her true purpose (her home) with the elderly, dying and grieving. I even get mentioned in the book – in a published book! How crazy is that?
Uma currently writes a blog on grieving, volunteers regularly at a hospice center, has an internet radio program on grieving, continues to write books, is a dream coach (helping people to live out their personal dreams), and continues to seek God and follow His leadings throughout her days – more than many Christians I know.
Uma still identifies herself as a Hindu. Though, at this point on her journey, she may be more of an Oprah-u! 🙂 or a Wayne Dyer-u! 🙂 You can read more about her journey in my November 2009 update entitle Uma From India.
Her memoir can be pre-ordered (just click on the Title below):
Eric Flood’s Article published in Christianity Today – The People Powered Pulpit:
I wish there were more senior pastors like Eric, who would let go of power, control, and ego, and be more collaborative, allowing the voices of the saints to inform the direction of the church, as the “priesthood of all believers”. There are so many smart, godly, inspiring people sitting underutilized in the pews. Why should one person be the only ear to God?
In the article, Eric explains how he has implemented a way for his sermons to be sharpened and improved by inviting in the voices of a team. It’s an interesting read.
As I read the article, I felt so proud of Eric and so proud that he is a Legacy Shepherding Ministries alum.
