William David Linley served his country faithfully in the military for seventeen years, now he struggles with PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and is serving sixteen years in prison after being in a 10 hour stand-off/shoot-out with the police on September 22, 2006.
Time magazine is telling his story in their recent publication. You can click on the cover picture or link at the bottom to read the Time article.
A Brief History:
I met David in 1995, on a ropes course retreat with a singles group at my church. We were on the same team (Team E) for the weekend. Soon after, David joined my men’s small group, where he continued to grow and flourish in his faith. In 1996, David asked me to be his best man in his wedding. It was a beautiful event and life looked promising.
David’s story took a difficult turn years later, after a military tour in Iraq, as you can read in the article.
David is not an official mentoree of Legacy Shepherding Ministries, Inc., but he is someone I pray for on a regular basis, and correspond with throughout the year.
Though David’s story is still unfinished, still a work in progress (just like the rest of our stories), I trust that God is in the process of bringing about more redemption, healing and transformation. Perhaps God is even doing a work through bringing his story into a more public light through Time magazine.
In the meantime, while in prison, David is actively involved in chapel work, bible studies, and attempting to exhibit God’s love to other prisoners – all of which come with many hardships and challenges, as you can probably imagine.
Please pray for David (and his family) as he journeys this difficult road. Hopefully someday we can hear the rest of his story, directly from him, on the other side of his struggle.
