Surfing For God

“Surfing For God” by Michael John Cusick

The back cover of the book “Surfing for God”, published in 2012, states that there are over 68 million internet searches for pornography every day in this world, and over 70% of Christian men reported viewing porn last year.

Not all of the people who searched for or viewed porn are going to become addicted, but if historical predictors carry forward, probably about 10% will become addicts.  That’s a lot of people world wide…and in your church!

With the internet making both helpful and destructive things more readily available, and with the increasing number of young people/children seeing porn at frighteningly early ages on the internet, it isn’t too surprising that this is an issue that is coming up more frequently in my meetings with young people.

The book “Surfing for God: Discovering the Divine Desire Beneath Sexual Struggle” has become on of my “go to” books on the topic of sexual struggle and sexual addiction.

G.K. Chesterton said, “Every man who knocks on the door of a brothel is looking for God.”

This book would say that every man who surfs the internet looking for pornography is actually searching for God.

What if lust for porn is really a search for true connection, love, belonging, and intimacy?  How can a person find what they are truly searching for and overcome an addiction that has plagued them in secrecy for so long?

I highly recommend this book.  Most likely someone you know, quite possibly someone you love, struggles with this issue; probably alone, in shame, silence, and secrecy.  It may even be you.

With so many men and women struggling with this issue, you don’t have to struggle alone.  Please talk to a safe friend, spiritual director, or counselor.  Please ask for help…and read this book.  It hopefully will be a great start on your journey of healing.
